Hunter Ryon

*

Hunter was born 2005 to Angie and Travis. He has started early in life growing up a fighter. This may come from having two big sisters and his large share of medical issues. Hunter has always been a very active young boy. He is not one to sit inside. He loves his sports, cars and trucks (thanks to Papaw), hunting, fishing, camping, and anything else to do with being outside. You will not find him inside if he has anything to say about it. As a parent, I loved seeing this. Now with his Perthes diagnoses he needs to slow down. This saddens me to no end. I never wanted to tell my son to sit on the couch and play video games. But as cool as we could make his room or any other place in our house he would still much rather be outside just digging in the mud. Hunter was able to play baseball for one year before being diagnosed and regrettably being told that sports where no longer in his future. This devastated him as he was so impatiently ready to play football. He now must be content in rooting for his favorites while watching the Colts, Reds, Pacers, some Nascar, and The Bone Collector hunting show. He has been able to hunt with dad, but this was still a struggle with walking to their stand. But he and dad WILL continue to find a way to the woods and water.

Since February 2011 Hunter has been under anesthesia 3 times for 3 surgeries; 4 times in the last three years. This was all before he turned 7 years old. Mom and dad are exhausted and this has really just begun.

Counting Down The Days

07/02/2012 13:08
Being Home with a heavy load of work, youth softball, and endlessly fixing our cars I have not had much time to update the site. For this, I apologize. With that said we are still here and kicking. Hunter has really battled with his fixator and restrictions.  With less than two...

No Place Like Home

03/29/2012 18:55
Well, after a few grueling weeks in Baltimore we have made it back home. Hunter is doing good and his spirits are bright being back home. The sore on his hip is slowly disappering and the pin sites look good. Now starts the 4 month perscription for physical therapy. In two months we will send...

Good News From Sinai

03/19/2012 00:51
I know today the Lord heard all of our prayers! Hunter went into OR this morning at 8:25, like his usual brave little self. Around 9:30 the doctor was out to see us with good news.  The doctor did not need to move any pin sites and didn’t need to cut out any of the skin.  Once in OR...

Back to the OR!

03/17/2012 22:15
Since surgery day we have been extremly wore out. Mom still has not left the hospital since Wednesday along with Hunter. We have seen about 100 different faces since surgery and probably half of them 5 to 10 times each. The days are starting to blur and so is the opinions, methods, and...

Surgery Day

03/14/2012 18:29
It has been another very long day. May I start by saying Hunter is the strongest and bravest boy ever. He handled today like it was barely another bump in the road. He makes mom and dad look like little weenies (tearing up as I type). We checked in at pre-op this morning at 8. Not much of a wait...

First Visit with Dr. Standard

03/08/2012 21:19
It has been an extremely long day. I will do my best to describe the events of today. We started out by taking the RMH shuttle to the hospital this morning. Once there, we where in very fast and on our way. I must say everyone we have seen here has been very...

Arrived in Baltimore

03/07/2012 21:12
Well we made it to our destination. With one gas stop and one food stop we pulled in at 7:00. The van seemed to handle the trip without any issues (knock on wood). As we walked in the door at the Ronald McDonald House the first thing they did was give him a blanket from The Welcome Project and a...

Packing for Baltimore

03/05/2012 23:01
We are almost ready for our 600 mile drive to Baltimore and are nervously anxious for another opinion. We will be leaving first thing Wednesday morning. The van is tuned up and should be ready for any road trip after the work it's seen lately. Shopped for some road snacks and drinks today and...

Appointment Scheduled

02/26/2012 23:23
Hunters appointment has been scheduled with Dr. Standard in Baltimore Maryland on March 8th at 9:00 a.m. This could be a 4 day trip or 20 day trip depending on the diagnoses. My gut feeling is it might be the later, but we're stayin hopeful for a good diagnoses. The Hackerman House is full so we...

What's Next

02/23/2012 23:15
Recently we sent x-rays to a world renowned perthes doctor to examine. We got what was almost an instant call from his office wanting to see Hunter soon. The doctor was then gracious enough to speak with me for nearly an hour on the phone about what was possible. So currently we are trying to...
